History was made recently when the 1990 Alumni Association of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo bestowed on some of the outstanding members of the association ‘Awards of Honour’.
This was a move to encourage them to contribute more to the development of their Alma Mata.
The Award Ceremony was held on Sunday, August 25th, 2019 at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.
The immediate past Provost of the College, Professor Olukoya Ogen who chaired the Awards Committee, while welcoming guests at the event expressed his satisfaction at the turn out of the Alumni members for the 1990 set.
The Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Kunle Filani, an Alumni of the 1990 set and the former Provost, Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta, urged members to continue to reunite and deepen the bonding that exists among them.
He revealed that there is no National Executive Council (NEC) of the Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo as at now.
Dr. Kilani urged the Institution’s Alumni Association to organise a National NEC meeting where national officers of the association will be properly elected and inaugurated.
Presenting the Awardees at the event, Dr. Kunle Filani applauded the alumni members such as Dr. Festus Oluwagboyega Oyebade, the current Head of Service in Osun State; Ambassador Wale Ojo – Lanre, the current Director General of Ekiti State Arts and Culture; High Chief Ayodele Ademiluwa, Managing Director of Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort; Dr. Samuel Akintunde, the current Provost of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo; Dr. Wahab Ademola Azeez, the current Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Lagos State, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and Area Commander, Apata in Ibadan, Oyo State, Mr. Francis Iwayemi Ojomo and Honourable Dada Adebisi James, Commissioner Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission for making their Alma Mata proud and being good ambassadors of the association.
Speaking with press after the event, the former Provost of the College, Professor Olukoya Ogen expressed his readiness to ensure that the Alumni Association at national level is organized to move the College forward.
In his word, “this is the fourth time in the history of the College that such an event will hold. Today, we have honoured our icons and ambassadors that are making waves in their different life endeavors. Our game plan is to ensure they give back to the Institution that produced them. The College no doubt has produced a lot of eminent and successful people whose records of success cannot be wished away”.
In the same vein, the Provost of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo and an Alumni of the College, Dr. Samuel Akintunde hammered on the need for the Alumni Association to have a very strong Constitution.
According to Akintunde, “having a constitution is the only thing that can help to ensure that things are done properly. I believe with time, the stakeholders will put the association in good shape when a proper constitution is worked upon”.
Akintunde used the opportunity to express his gratitude to the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile Ife Governing Council and the Federal Government for the accreditation of six new courses for the College.
He listed the six new courses to include Theatre and Creative Arts Education, Computer Science Education, Business Education, Music Education, African Languages and Literature Education and Educational Management.
Also present at the ceremony were the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr. Shina Olukolu and Dr. Segun Jegede, who was the former President, Student’s Union Government, Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo and Alumni set of 1990 and former Head, National Secretariat of the Committee for the Defence Human Rights (CDHR) in Lagos.
