In order to ensure universal access to electricity, the Dr Kayode Fayemi-led government in Ekiti State has inaugurated a Baseline Energy Survey Committee to conduct baseline survey for un-served and underserved rural communities in the state.

Preforming the inauguration ceremony in Ado-Ekiti, the Commissioner for Infrastructures and Public Utilities, Hon. Bamidele Faparusi, noted that the Dr.Kayode Fayemi-led administration was committed to improving the lives of Ekiti people by making electricity available as a way of promoting the economic activities of the state.

Faparusi said the development became necessary to ensure rapid development of the state, noting that apart from meeting the electricity needs of the people, it will equally serve as an avenue for drawing investors to the state.

In his observation, the Chief Executive Officer of EBN Renewable Limited, a firm which specializes on biogas and solar energy, Prince Ebunola Martins, described the setting up of the committee as an effort in the right direction.

The committee which comprises engineers from the Ministry of Infrastructures and Public Utilities, Ekiti State Electricity Board and bureaucrats from private sectors of Genesis Energy Limited, Energy Harnessing Limited and EBN Renewable Limited, has eight weeks to submit its report.

The Energy Survey Committee is expected to conduct energy audit of the various communities suitable for mini-grid and those suitable for franchising as well as capturing government institutions for energy requirements, among others.
