Oyo JUSUN Members Re-elect Martins As Chairman, CJ Sends Congratulatory Message

Members of the Oyo State chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria ((JUSUN) have re-elected the incumbent Chairman, Martins Kayode as their new chairman to steer the affairs of the union for the next four years.

The keenly contested election, which was held at the High Court of Justice, Ring Road, Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State on Wednesday, August 28th, 2019, witnessed large turn-out of members from all stations of the judiciary across the state.

The election was monitored by national officers of the union including Comrade Jimoh Alonge, National Treasurer, Comrade Nnamani, National Deputy Secretary, Comrade Yahaya Hong, National Financial Secretary, Comrade George, National Vice President (South South) and Comrade Emmanuel Abioye National Vice President (South West).

Kayode Martins, who is the Oyo State 2nd Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), polled 389 votes to defeat his closed rival, Adeosun Abdulgafar, who polled 347 votes, while Aliu Ademola polled 18 votes to emerge 2nd runner-up.

Meanwhile, the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Munta Ladi Abimbola has sent his congratulatory message to the newly elected executive members of the Oyo State Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) on their victory.

In a message delivered by the High Court of Justice’s Chief Registrar, Alhaja Fatimah Badrudeen, said now that since the elections have come and gone, the new elected officers should ensure all members are carried along in their administration.

The Chief Judge implored them to forget all that might have happened in the build up to the elections, saying that it is time to work together for the benefit of the union.

While commending the entire staff of Oyo State JUSUN for maintaining tranquility throughout the exercise, Justice Abimbola also applauded the national officers of the union who were in-charge of the exercise for ensuring transparency in the conduct of the elections.

Comrade George, in his goodwill message shortly after the swearing-in, appealed to the new executive members to use the opportunity for the benefit of their members without compromising existing cordial relationship between the union and the management.

He thanked the entire staff members of the Oyo State Judiciary for their cooperation and charged them to support the executive members for a successful tenure.

The newly inaugurated Chairman, Comrade Kayode Martins, in his speech, promised on behalf of the executive to justify the confidence reposed on them.

He implored all members of the union to eschew religious sentiment that characterized electioneering campaign processes and focus on how to move the union forward.

Other elected officers are Kikiowo Kehinde as Vice Chairman, Adejinmi Sunday, Treasurer, Osineye Gbenga, Organizing Secretary, Popoola Kazeem as Assistant Secretary, Abass Taiwo as Internal Auditor, Awotunde James, Assistant Financial Secretary and Okulaja Funso as PRO.
