Nigeria’s Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan and Speaker House of Representative, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila will be the Special Guests of Honour as Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde declares the National Rescue Summit slated to hold on Thursday, September 26th, 2019 open.
The summit, according to the press release from the organizer, Road Accident Information & Rescue Organization (RAIRO) will hold at Large Lecture Theatre (LLT) Hall, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ibadan by 10 am.
The summit titled “Save A Life, Rescue Where You Are” is to addressing carnage on Nigerian roads and safety consciousness among road users in the country.
The organization’s Commandant General, Bamgboye Okanlawon, who signed the release indicated that Prince Fidelis Nnamdi, Executive Director, Accident Prevention & Rescue Initiative, Abuja will deliver a keynote address.
He stated that the summit will feature heads of security and rescue operations in Nigeria including the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, National Security and Civil Defense Corps’ Abdullahi Gana, Federal Road Safety Corps’ Boboye Oyeyemi, Fire Service’ Liman Ibrahim and Chief Medical Director, University Teaching Hospital, Prof. Abiodun Otegbayo and other relevant stakeholders in the country.
He reiterated that the focus of the summit is to proffer solutions to myriad of problems of harassment and intimidation facing voluntary rescue officers in Nigeria.
Okanlawon expressed that the summit is expected to bring about recommendations that will be forwarded to the National Assembly as a bill, ‘Good Samaritan Bill’ that will be targeted to encourage many Nigerian citizens who have the will to assist victims of road accidents.
