In compliance with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) guideline on Anchor Borrowers Programme,Ogun State Steering Committee has inaugurated a project management team, to ensure successful implementation of the scheme.
Speaking during the inauguration, Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, Dr. Adetunji Oredipe, said the Project Management Team (PMT) would verify farmers and the sizes of the land, identify reputable agricultural input suppliers, as well as organise town hall meetings to agree on the economics of production of the crops.
Oredipe revealed that the inauguration was in line with the CBN’s prerequisite for the scheme, noting that the team would ensure timely distribution of funds and input for the farmers.
He said the newly inaugurated team comprised representatives of all stakeholders including; participating financial institution, Anchors Agricultural Development programme (Ministry of Agriculture), Farmers and Extension lead officers.
The Special Adviser explained that the PMT, which was expected to sign tripartite agreement with participating financial institution, Anchors and the farmers, also has other responsibilities which includes; preparation of farmers’ list with their commodities, account number, gender and farm size, cooperative name and their respective Local Government Areas.
Oredipe stated further that the newly constituted team became imperative, as the State government value transparency and due process, saying the platform would enable stakeholders freely make their input to the development of the scheme.
