As a result of the worrisome situation of healthcare centers across the state, the Oyo State House of Assembly has summoned the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bello and the Executive Secretary, Primary Healthcare Board to appear before it on October 24th, 2019.
The state’s assembly also urged the Primary Healthcare Board to overhaul central stores of Primary Health Centre across the state.
The Speaker of the House, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin, while passing the resolutions of the house on the motion jointly presented by Hon. Akintunde Olajide, representing Lagelu state constituency and Hon. Adeola Bamidele of Iseyin/Itesiwaju state constituency on “Urgent Need For Community Health and Health Care Reformation In Oyo State,” said that the Commissioner for Health and the Executive Secretary will brief the House on the state of primary healthcare centres in the state.
In his presentation, Hon. Akintunde Olajide disclosed that the legislative arm of government needs to collaborate with the executive to make healthcare services available, accessible and affordable to the people.
He said that current situation in the primary healthcare system of the state has increased the level of mortality rate among children.
Hon. Olajide observed that formulation and implementation of policies, strategies and plans to ensure availability of resources at this point in time cannot be over emphasized.
He called on the Oyo State Primary Healthcare Board to ensure that central store of all primary healthcare centres in the state are overhauled.
The House Minority Leader, Hon. Asimiyu Alarape urged the House to call on the state Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde to declare state of emergency in the state’s health sector.
He maintained that the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bello during the screening exercise also confirmed that the situation in the health sector is a disaster.
In another development, the Oyo State House of Assembly has passed Local Government (amendment) Bill, 2019 into law.
The bill which passed through the second reading last week was passed into law after further considerations at the committee level, is seeking to amend the Local Government Law, 2001.
