In order to yield to the yearnings of the people of Ibarapa East state constituency to make Eruwa Water Supply Scheme functional, the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has promised the state government’s intervention on the scheme.
Hon. Ogundoyin stated that the resuscitation of the Eruwa dam is imperative at this point in time for human and agricultural needs of the area.
The Speaker gave the assurance during an unscheduled visit to the dam in response to the request of the people of the area.
The meeting was one of the fall-outs of the town hall meeting at Eruwa, where the Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adegbola Akindele and some of the stakeholders in the constituency called on the state government to make the dam functional.
Hon. Ogundoyin, who was conducted round the facilities at the Eruwa dam by one of the workers, Mr. Isaiah Emado, said there was the need for the state government to upgrade and repair the facilities there.
Hon. Ogundoyin maintained that it was unfortunate that such a huge project is wasting and rotting away.
“It became imperative for me to visit the dam in response to the request of my people in Ibarapa East state constituency. This will enable me to brief the governor on the state of the dam.
“I want to assure you that the officials of the Water Corporation of Oyo State (WCOS) will be made to submit a report on the dam as soon as possible,” the Speaker explained.
The lawmaker said if fully operational, the Eruwa Water Supply Scheme will also be particularly useful for the Eruwa Farm Settlement to be expanded by the state government in terms of irrigation of farmlands, fishing and other agricultural purposes.
The Speaker walked round the dam where he was shown some of the new and dilapidated facilities in the area.
