The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has asked for increased collaboration and partnership with the Department of Petroleum Resources. DPR, in the fight against corruption in the extractive industry.
The call was made today Wednesday November 13, 2019, by the Lagos Zonal Head of the Commission, Mohammed Rabo, on behalf of the Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, during a visit to the DPR head office in Lagos.
“On behalf of the Acting Chairman of the Commission, I want to seize this opportunity to appreciate the Director and the entire staff of DPR for the sustained support, collaboration and robust partnership the Commission has always enjoyed which has helped us immensely in the pursuit of our mandate”, Rabo stated.
“To strengthen our synergy as critical stakeholders, we need your intervention in the area of capacity building. Our operatives need to be brought up to speed with the workings of your Department. We will like to be considered whenever you are organising any seminar and/ or workshops that can bridged any knowledge gap about your legal and operational environment”, he added.
In his response, the Acting Director / Chief Executive Officer, Department of Petroleum Resources, Ahmed Rufa’i Shakur, expressed his delight at the visit and promised to continue to give the Commission the necessary support to achieve its goals.
“We need to work together to arrest the drift and monumental loss of money by the country to oil theft as the country is losing a lot of money to the illicit activities of the illegal oil dealers.
“I agreed with you that the staff of the Commission need all the necessary capacity building. We will forthwith include the EFCC staff in our training programme,”he said.
The Director also promised to give other issues, including technical advice, establishment of data base to enhance synergy, the necessary attention.
