The Oyo State House of Assembly has called on the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in the state to speed up the issuance of national identification cards to the indigenes and residents in the state.

The speaker, Hon. Debo Ogundoyin described the exercise as a very significant one, noting that its equal distribution will benefit all and sundry in the country.

He, however, observed that the attitude of the commission towards the issuance of the cards is appalling.

He urged the commission to speed up action in the issuance of the cards to the people of Oyo State and Nigeria at large.

While presenting the motion, “Need for the National Identity Management Commission to Expedite Action on the Issuance of National Identity Card to Citizens and Residents of Oyo State”,  Hon. Akeem Adedibu, representing Iwajowa state constituency called on the management of the commission to be proactive in their activities.

He said that many people have been registered for the card since 2010, yet, they have not collected their identity cards.

Lawmaker representing Iseyi Itesiwaju state constituency, Hon. Bamidele Adeola maintained that the matter requires urgency, as the delay in the issuance of the cards might shortchange many people in the state.

In his argument, lawmaker representing Oyo East/Oyo West constituency, Isiaka Kazeem, lamented that the activities of the NIMC is only functional in one place in his constituency. He thus, called on the commission to wake up to its responsibilities.

Hon. Jacob Abidoye, representing Orire state constituency urged the federal government to energize the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) by providing the needed equipment and materials for quick issuance of cards to the people.

The House has therefore, appealed to the management of the commission to restrategize on the production of the cards to ensure its availability to the people.
