Highly successful but quiet Nigerian philanthropist, Sola Adegbola was over the weekend honoured by his colleagues from his alma mater, Igbo Elerin Grammar School in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.
The honour was specifically bestowed on the mega-successful farmer and oil industry giant by a set-group of the school called Comity Club ’83 made up of old students of the school who graduated in 1983.
While speaking at the event which was also attended by Oyo State’s Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatubosun, Comity Club ‘83’s President, Mr Femi Bolaji spoke glowingly about the awardee.
The Chairman of the group’s Board of Trustees, Engineer Sunday Gbenjo also commended Adegbola for his commitment to Igbo Elerin Grammar School’s uplift.
His words, “We appreciate the hands of fellowship extended to us by ‘Senior Sola Adegbola especially in connection with the ultra modern toilet facilities that we are going to commission for the use of both teachers and students of this school today”.
While delivering his own address, Oyo State’s Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism also saluted Adegbola for his determination to give back to the society. He equally appreciated all the members of Comity Club ’83 for remaining focused and united as they continue to add value to their alma mater.
Said the commissioner, “the present government in Oyo State being led by Engineer Seyi Makinde is always happy to know that old students are supporting their alma mater. The government is more elated because what you are doing is going to compliment our plan for the education sector. Governor Makinde is passionate about turning the sector around. Furniture and other facilities will soon be provided”.
Sola Adegbola, in his message delivered on his behalf by Olayinka Agboola, the Publisher of Parrot Xtra Magazine/PMParrot.com urged the students and teachers of the school to maintain and protect the facilities provided for them by the government and old students.
“The ultramodern toilet you have from us today and others must be maintained so that old students and others will be encouraged to do more. We will forever be ready to support our alma mater,” said Adegbola who passed out of the school in 1982.
