Following the nomination of the caretaker Chairmen and sole administrators for local governments and local council development areas across Oyo state by Governor Seyi Makinde, some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Loyalists have stormed the House of Assembly complex to disrupt the screening exercise over alleged imposition.
It will be recalled that the Speaker of the House, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin Monday, announced 68 names on the nomination list as contained in a letter presented by Governor Seyi Makinde.
Among the caretaker chairmen nominees whose their nomination was opposed were Timothy Oyedokun Oyeniyi- Ogbomoso South, Obalowo Olugbenga- Ibarapa East and Emmanuel Alawode- Ibadan South East.
Some of the protesters, who preferred to speak under the condition of anonymity, alleged that many of the chairmen nominees were not bonafide members of the party.
They expressed that many of them are decampees, who were not on ground when the going was tough. They urged the lawmakers to reject their nomination.
They alleged that names of the people who emerged at the PDP primaries have been doctored by the power that be within the hierarchy of the party.
Meanwhile, the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters has screened all the 68 local government and local council development area chairmen nominated by the governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde.
In their different reactions, some other nominees expressed their appreciation to the Governor for his timely intervention towards the grassroots government.
They noted that the purpose of their appointment is to ensure that the good work of Governor Seyi Makinde is extended to the people at the grassroots.
Mr. Adesola Yaqub, Orelope, Kehinde Adeyemi Akande, Ibadan South West and Alhaji Tajuden Adeyemi, Saki West LCDA, expressed their readiness to key into the four-point agenda of Governor Seyi Makinde to bring about rapid development to their various council areas.
They promised to compliment the present administration’s effort to boost agriculture, raise the bar of education especially at the primary school level, enhance security and promote quality health care delivery to their people.
The screening exercise which journalists were barred from monitoring, witnessed Adeyinka Remi Oluwaseun, Ogbomoso Central LCDA, Sharafadeen Muhammed, Surulere North, Ibrahim Sulaiman Akinkunmi, Atiba, Sanda Sikuru, Egbeda local government and 61 others being screened.
