The Super Eagles of Nigeria ended the year 2019 static in 31st position in the latest FIFA World Ranking released on Thursday, Sports Extra reports.

Gernot Rohr’s men garnered a total of 1493 points to retain their third position in Africa behind Senegal and Tunisia.

The Teranga Lions of Senegal, runners up at the 2019 Africa Cup Of Nations, rounded off the year as Africa’s top-ranked team and 20th in the world amassing 1555 points.

Tunisia who lost in the third-place match to the Eagles at the 2019 AFCON, are seven places below Senegal but are the continent’s second-best team after amassing 1506 points.

AFCON Champions Algeria are fourth in Africa and 35th in the world with Morocco complete the top five in Africa but are placed 43rd in the World.

Belgium hold on to top spot in a December table barely impacted by just 19 friendlies, but with 1082 international A matches – an all-time high since the Ranking’s 1993 inception – having already been played.

World champions France and Brazil also remain in second and third, the positions they held in December 2018, but the make-up of the top five has changed, with England climbing one place to reach fourth and Uruguay moving up to fifth on the back of a two-spot rise.

Argentina (9th) and Colombia (10th) have also entered the top ten at the expense of Switzerland (12th) and Denmark (16th), who slipped four and six places respectively over the course of the year.
