The wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi has strongly admonished pregnant women in the state to stop the culture of giving birth at home.
Erelu Fayemi gave the advice while receiving the first baby of the year at the University Teaching Hospital in Ado, the state capital.
The wife of the governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Mojisola Fafure congratulated the family of the new born baby for the save delivery.
The first baby of the year, a girl was born at about 2:13 in the morning to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Adekunle Fajulugbe.
The baby who weighed 2.8 kilogramme was the first child of the family.
Mrs. Fayemi who presented gift to the parents of the baby said it was important for mothers to give quality attention and priority to the well-being of their children in the overall interest of the society.
“The huge government expenditure on infant and maternal health infrastructure could only be justified by a commensurate use of modern facilities by the women, their babies and the children”, she said.
She noted that government’s efforts at curbing maternal and infant mortality would be slowed down if expectant mothers fail to patronize the government health facilities.
The Chief Medical Director of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Professor Kayode Olabanji thanked the governor’s wife for her regular visit and appealed to parents in the state to ensure good upbringing of their wards.
The father of the First Baby of the year, Mr. Adekunle Fajulugbe who hails from Orin Ekiti, returned all glory to God Almighty for the safe delivery of his wife. He thanked the first Lady, Erelu Bisi Fayemi for the gift and wished the present administration a successful tenure.
