Ex-Super Eagles player and team manager for Ibadan’s Shooting Stars Sporting Club (3SC), Dimeji Lawal popularly known as Kabongo has been talking about how Nigeria’s Super Eagles can win FIFA’s World Cup.
He submitted that this will only happen if proper and adequate facilities can be put in place in the country.
The experienced footballer gave this submission while featuring on this week’s edition of Parrot Xtra Hour on Radio aired on King 103.9 FM radio at Premier Hotel, Mokola, Ibadan, in the capital city of Oyo State.
He said “As big as Ibadan is, there’s only one functional stadium for all activities which is the Lekan Salami, Adamasingba Stadium. Sometimes, we have to leave the stadium for people doing inter-house sports, athletics and hockey. So we need more facilities”.
Kabongo also expressed his displeasure concerning how law and order are missing in the Nigerian league management.
“If we have law and order in place, when you don’t need to change or take sides about an issue, it will be great. By this, I mean we do not need a minister or commissioner to come into your decision making. The law is not a respecter of people.
We bend our laws too much. You want to put a team together, influential Nigerians will be throwing in their weights to put in their wards. We need to change our ways”.
He also took time to praise the governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde to having genuine interest in the progress and uplift of 3SC.
In his words “Governor Makinde came in to watch 3SC play some 20 minutes before the match was meant to start. He called all the players by their first names. We have never had any governor with this degree of interest in what we do at 3SC.”
