Our Focus Remains Even Development Of Sports In Oyo – Youth and Sport Commissioner, Seun Fakorede

The present administration in Oyo State has reiterated its determination to ensure total development of sports and youths in the state. It has thus rolled out the scorecard of the ministry in charge in the last nine months.

The state government under the leadership of Engr. Seyi Makinde has concentrated its effort towards general development of sports according to the Youth and Sport Commissioner, Seun Fakorede.

He noted that rather than concentrating on football alone, attention has been shifted towards development of other sports and this has been yielding results.

The youthful Commissioner in a scorecard of the ministry made available to PMParrot, revealed that Oyo State has participated in 11 different championships both at national and international levels winning 82 medals (25 gold, 31 silver and 16 bronze).

Out of the 11 competitions participated, six were at national level, while five were at international level.

According to the Oyo State Ministry of Youth and Sport scorecard, the state participated in SOTA Under-12 National Tennis Championship (Lagos 2019), winning one gold and one silver.

Said the report “We were at the 59th National Youth Games (Ilorin 2019), seven gold, 17 silver and 13 bronze.

“Nigeria Cricket Federation (PWC) South West Under-17 Cricket Championship (Oyo 2019), winning two gold.

“Mutual Benefit Assurance Badminton Championship (Lagos 2019), one gold, one silver and one bronze.

“1st South West Para-Power Lifting Championship (Ogun State 2019), winning three gold, four silver and three bronze.

“And 2nd Rivers National Open Karate and Kickboxing Championship (Rivers 2020), two silver and one bronze.

“At international scene: Africa Amateur Individual Chess Championship (Sierra Leone 2019) winning one gold.

“All African Games (Morocco 2019), three gold, three silver and three bronze.

“African Cup- Track Cycling (2019), five gold, three silver and three bronze.

“2020 Africa Continental Track Cycling Championship (Cairo, Egypt 2020) winning two gold and one bronze.

“Africa Tennis Championship (Lome, Togo 2019) winning one bronze.

“Usman Okanlawon emerged winner of the Boys Single title at the recent ITTF World Hopes Challenge (Oman 2020)”.

The Commissioner assured that the Engineer Seyi Makinde-led administration is leaving no stone unturned to ensure promotion of the state’s darling team, Shooting Stars Sporting Club (3SC) back to the elite division, Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) through the repair of artificial turf grass, installation and maintenance of tartan track at Adamasingba stadium, as well renovation of other state owned sport facilities.
