The people living in communities surrounding the abandoned Agbowo Shopping Complex located opposite the University of Ibadan in the capital city of Oyo State have sent an ‘SOS’ message to the governor of the state, Engineer Seyi Makinde over insecurity.

The residents, whose representatives spoke with PMParrot on Saturday sent a special message to the governor appealing to him to make up his mind what he wants to do about the sprawling edifice before hoodlums and men of the underworld finally take over the whole community.

According to Mr Olayinka Adesina who spoke on behalf of the residents, young girls have been the major targets of the hoodlums.

Adesina explained further “since the complex is very empty with over 100 shops, and corridors, these thugs have all the space to operate. Our young daughters are being attacked on daily basis especially when it is dark. Several students of the University of Ibadan have also fallen victim.

“We even gathered that some of the hooligans have turned a section of the Complex to their armory where they keep the weapons they deploy during their operations at night.

“Our appeal to our amiable governor, Engr Makinde is that he should decide what he wants to do about the complex in time. We have made representations to the Oyo State Housing Corporation too.”

It will be recalled that sometime in 2016, the administration of the then Governor of the state, Sen Abiola Ajimobi signed and MoU with Agbowo Mall Infrastructure Development Company Limited to turn the edifice around. It was evacuated and work was supposed to commence. Nothing has happened since then.
