Heracles Almelo dependable striker, Cyriel Dessers says he was disappointed not to have made his international debut for the Nigeria’s Super Eagles this month.

The Belgian-born striker was preparing to travel to Asaba in Nigeria, after his first ever call-up to the Nigeria National team, only for the Confederation of African Football to postpone the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Dessers’ dreams of representing the three-time African champions as early as possible could go up in smoke as it is not cast in stone that he’ll be invited by the Nigeria coach, Gernot Rohr for the national team’s next international game.

“Pooh, in the beginning it was mentally tough. I was excited, because that would have been the best moment of my career,” said Dessers to Dutch broadcaster Nederlandse Omroep Stichting.

“But of course there are now much more important things going on for everyone. That debut could wait.”

Ahead of the resumption of the Dutch Eredivisie, Dessers is undergoing individual training in Apeldoorn.
