Despite appealing to its teeming customers to restrict themselves to banking from home, one of Africa’s most vibrant financial institutions, United Bank for Africa (UBA) has put in place some immediate measures to ‘insulate’ both staff and customers against COVID-19.
A visit to one of the bank’s flagship branches in Dugbe, Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State confirmed that while awaiting the arrival of more sophisticated hardware from its Marina, Lagos Headquarters, the regional head have put in place quick and immediate measures to protect customers and staff members.

An insider at the Dugbe Branch of the bank informed “here at UBA, we care for our customers. Yes, we asked them to bank from home, but those who must visit any of our branches should be rest assured that, by God’s grace, they will have no reason to fear. We have a large stock of hand sanititizers, soaps, running water, infrared thermometers and we are organized.
“In addition, we have ensured that in all our banking halls, we don’t have more than 15 to 20 people at a time.”
“You see, UBA’s management had along the line made life convenient for our customers because all our online banking platforms are available 24/7 to serve our numerous customers wherever they are.”
Our source continued “In these days of COVID-19, we are quite aware of the responsibilities attached to these times. The virus is spreading and it is affecting lives, businesses and economies.
“Specifically, our security officers attached to all our branches know what to do. They have been equipped with non-contact thermometers to check temperatures of those aspiring to enter our branches. If any is found with temperature above 37.6 degrees centigrade, such a person will be denied entry and advised to seek medical attention. Our hygiene officers also ensure hands are washed where necessary and our offices are being disinfected from time to time every day.”
