
Ekiti State’s Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Mrs. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade and her counterpart from the Ministry Of Environment in the state, Mr. Gbenga Agbeyo who also doubles as the Chairman for Environmental Taskforce on COVID-19 in the State have assured Ekiti Residents that the 41 contacts already identified are all in stable conditions.
Mr. Agbeyo also used the opportunity to unveil the government plans to enforce the directives of the state governor on social distancing in the State.
Yaya-Kolade while briefing the press revealed that the remaining four contacts yet to be identified as at the time of the press conference have been identified.
She maintained that the health of the 41 identified has been very stable with no sign of high temperature or signs and symptoms of COVID-19.
According to Yaya-Kolade, “there are no symptoms showing in the 41 identified. Everything is in order. We had 41 contacts. We have been able to contact everybody 100% that had contacts with the positive patient. We have been monitoring all of them in the last couple of days. They are all hale and hearty. No coughing. No high temperature. Everything is under control. The Ekiti State Infectious Disease Centre located at the Agric Olope in Ado Ekiti has been attending to the 41 contacts already identified. We have a Ventilator there now”, she stated.
On the issue of re-training, she revealed that the staffs, nurses and doctors and other health care workers are being retrained to have efficient human capital as provided by the government.
“Those tests already conducted are being awaited from the samples sent to the laboratory. We are earnestly waiting to confirm before briefing the media about them because we don’t want to give verbal report that can be denied later. We are expecting to have a written report. I have spoken to the DG of NCDC, we will be getting some results soon from Lagos”.
Equally, she said “the EOC Centres are in place where we have our daily briefings. The CLOs are also going out and meeting the contacts, talking to them on phone and making sure everything is okay. Surveillance is going on too. The Epistemologists are working. The Risk Managers are also working. Logistics is working. Everything is intact. The Environmental Taskforce which was set up earlier by His Excellency, Dr. Kayode Fayemi is meeting regularly. My good self and the Taskforce have met the Rapid Response Team of the Ekiti State Police Command to fine tune arrangements to enforce the Social Distancing order of the Governor of the State”.
Also, reacting to the Wednesday tweet of the Governor of the State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi on COVID 19 test done by him, Yaya-Kolade while giving update on it on Thursday said: “the test result is yet to be out. She denied reports on the Social Media saying that the test results conducted on him was out. The test results are still being awaited. She urged the public to disregard the earlier report, “When the test result is out, it will be in a written form which all can see”, she declared.
Yaya-Kolade charged all Banks and Petrol Stations in the State to device measures to ensure Social Distancing order and care for their customers through provision of canopy and probably engage in numbering from 1-20 for easy operations.
Also, speaking, the State Commissioner for Environment, Gbenga Agbeyo, said measures have been put in place to ensure that travelers coming into Ekiti are checked at the entry points to reduce the possibility of contracting the Virus and guarantee the safety of the residents of the state.
The Commissioner for Environment and the Chairman for the Environmental Taskforce in Ekiti State, Mr. Gbenga Agbeyo said: “the state government is ready to decongest the population of the Atikankan Area and stopp all business activities in the area and work out modalities on how to ensure voluntary evacuation to Shasha Market or forceful ejection if the present occupants of the place refuse to leave in peace. The Ekiti State Government is poised to bring down the Shanties as well as stationing security agents there to effect the decision of the state government”.
Agbeyo noted that the state environmental taskforce is prepared to move round the markets from Friday to ensure strict compliance with the government’s order on the market closure with the exception of those selling foodstuffs and other essential items.
