The State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ekiti State Chapter, Rev. Fr. Peter Olowolafe has admonished Christians and other religious  leaders in the State not to flout the directive and the order given by the Governor of the State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi on COVID- 19

The CAN leader gave the admonition while  interacting with PMParrot in Ado Ekiti, the State capital.

According to him, “since the government of Ekiti State instructed that every gathering should not be more than 20, we have been sending messages across to the 17 CAN Local Government Chairmen in the State on the need for them to strictly abide by the medical recommendations giving by medical experts in the Country”.

In his earlier message, the CAN and Muslim representatives under the umbrella body of NIREC met and agreed to intensify the enlightenment campaign on the need to abide by the advice of medical experts across the Country.

Olowolafe stressed further that he recently held a meeting with the Commissioner for Health in the State, Dr. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade  and some stakeholders in the health sector and that he has passed messages across to all the Christians  based on the discussion they had, urging them to cooperate with the State Government directives.

He stated that further messages will be sent out to all Christians and Church Leaders in the State to guide against disobeying the order on Social Distancing especially.

“We have also been on air to sensitize the public on the need to obey the State Government directives and I believe that the Christians are already cooperating. I am also aware that the Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese has ordered the total lockdown of all the Catholic  Churches in Ekiti State till further notice. I wish to equally call on other denominations and Churches across the State who may wish to conduct Church Services to ensure the population of worshipers in a Service does not exceed a total number of 20 persons in order to maintain reasonable Distancing”.

The CAN Chairman has also called on Christians worshipers in the State to rise for prayers and pray that God should protect Nigerians from the disease and heal those  that have been infected already.
