Nigeria’s Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr has said that he is happy over the action of former Nigeria skipper, Mikel Obi over the termination of his contract with Turkish Super Lig side, Trabzonspor last month.
Mikel ended his Turkish Lig stay with Trabzonspor following the refusal of the organiser to suspend the league despite the pandemic that has claimed so many lives across the world.
The German tactician expressed that Mikel’s action is in right projection because every player must protect his own health before thinking of playing.
“It is a noble gesture, he was right to do it even if he finds himself without a club today. You can’t threaten the health of the players.
“Many people have supported Obi Mikel, not just in Africa. He could count on the solidarity of the football family, it is very important,” Rohr said.
With the mutual agreement between Mikel and Trabzonspor, the former Chelsea midfielder lose €3.375 million in wages.
Brazilian Serie A clubs Internacional and Botafogo have been mooted as possible destinations for Mikel when the transfer window opens for business.
