A former Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government Area in Ogun State, Wale Adedayo, has backed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, ahead of the 2027 election, predicting that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will be defeated.
Adedayo, who served as local government chairman under the APC administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, said the ruling party had lost touch with the people and would be dislodged through the ballot box.
Speaking on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme during the week, the former council boss said, “APC is gone in Ogun State,” citing what he described as changing political realities across the state.
He described Adebutu as the candidate to beat, predicting what he called “seismic changes” in the 2027 governorship election.
Adedayo, a political analyst, claimed that the APC had been declining in numerical strength and popularity across Ogun’s 20 local government areas and 236 wards.
He also claimed that political permutations were currently favouring the PDP, with stakeholders from different political parties, including members of the APC, allegedly shifting their allegiance to the opposition party.
“We are not going to have any battle in Ogun State. We are talking about seismic changes, in terms of the fact that we are going to have an earthquake where people will move in a direction many may not expect,” he said.
Adedayo predicted that while President Bola Tinubu would retain his influence in the state, the PDP would win the governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections.
On zoning, he said the Ijebus had supported Yewa candidates in previous elections, including 2011 and 2015, but argued the political situation had changed.
He said the Ijebus now believed it was their turn to produce the governor, adding that Adebutu was qualified for the position.
Adedayo also questioned the indigene status of the APC governorship candidate, Solomon Adeola, alleging that he had no roots in Ogun State.
He challenged Adeola to prove his ancestry and accused him of making “fraudulent claims” about his origin.
Adeola has not responded to the allegation in the material provided.
Adedayo further argued that voters needed adequate information about candidates before making their choices, stressing that “democracy is about informed decision before making a choice.”
He maintained that the political situation in Ogun had changed significantly from the previous election, when the winning margin was about 14,000 votes.
According to him, Abiodun was defeated in his polling unit, ward, local government and senatorial district during the last election.
Adedayo said the changes he claimed were taking place across Ogun were particularly evident in Ogun Central, describing them as a “seismic change” in favour of Adebutu.
