The management of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan has announced that it has, as part of its readiness for the fight against COVID-19, converted part of the East Two Ward to take care of those suspected to have contracted the virus.
The hospital’s Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo said the step became necessary in order to be able to cope with possible increase in cases of the dreaded virus.
He disclosed that the former MDR building (Damien Foundation) is being renovated and re-equipped as isolation centre.
The renovation is being undertaken by the UCH Health Foundation.
In the meantime, the hospital has not recorded any new case of COVID 19 in almost 24 hours. The new case mentioned earlier is asymptomatic and is on self quarantine. On a positive note, a member of staff previously being managed at home has returned two negative tests hence discharged from follow-up.
A statement from the hospital’s media team made available to PMParrot on Sunday, UCH management said “we will continue to render excellent care and services to all our patients. The Hospital equally enjoins everyone to abide by the required infection prevention and control measures such as physical distancing, regular hand washing, use of hand sanitizers & face masks. We will continue to update the public accordingly. Stay safe.”
