Super Eagles defender, Ola Aina has revealed the reason he dumped the English national team to commit his international future to Nigeria.
The former Chelsea defender explained that after consultation with his family and friends, he saw reasons to shun the Three Lions because it would be very difficult for him to break into the English squad.
Speaking further, the Torino defender said the final nail on the coffin for him to choose Nigeria is the offer of the Nigeria Football Federation that guarantee a chance to play for the Super Eagles straightaway.
“England was never going to give me a chance to play for the senior team, that’s the difference. Nigeria gave me the pathway to play for their senior team.
“I probably would have made it there at some point but Nigeria told me I can make it here now, it was a no-brainer,” Aina said.
When asked if he supports Liverpool midfielder, Ovie Ejaria, who is the latest foreign-born player to switch his allegiance to the Super Eagles, Aina said “Yes, if you have the roots and from Nigeria you should be welcomed to play for Nigeria, no one should be felt like they are pushed aside”.
