Professor Abiodun Otegbayo’s administration at the University College Hospital(UCH), Ibadan has added another milestone to its story with the commissioning of the newly upgraded Chemical Pathology laboratory.
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Otegbayo disclosed this at the occasion held at the college’s premises, reiterating his commitment to ensuring staff welfare and patients’ comfort.
His words “part of the comfort of patients is to be able to carry out tests whenever they want to do so with speed and ease. Besides, staff welfare is when our staff have the necessary tools to work with resulting in a high level of job satisfaction. What we are witnessing today justifies my commitment to patients’ comfort and staff welfare across board”.
Otegbayo pointed out that other Departments in the hospital will experience similar upgrade in the transformation agenda of the present administration.
The CMD said “we have renovated and re-equipped some clinical departments and this will not be the end, even though we are grappling with meagre resources, I believe that with hard work and commitment to our shared vision for excellence, we will build a Hospital of our dream”
Earlier, the Head of Chemical Pathology Department, Dr. Olubayo Michael Akinosun noted that the renovation and reequipping of the laboratory will add value to Research, training and service in the hospital.
Dr. Akinosun remarked that the laboratory can now be compared favourably with other standard laboratories across the world, saying “the machines we have just procured here with the help of our partners, Advanced Medisystem, will significantly reduce medical tourism and boost the hospital’s revenue”.
He sincerely appreciated Prof. Otegbayo for giving a facelift to what he described as an “abandoned laboratory.”
The Deputy Director in the Chemical Pathology Department, Mrs. Fisayo Ogah stated that turnaround time for results of test in the laboratory will greatly reduced while getting accurate results will be achieved.
The highlight of the commissioning was the presentation of awards to the Chief Medical Director, Prof Jesse Otegbayo and others in appreciation of their contribution to transforming the laboratory.
As at the close of business on Friday, 15th May, 2020, no new case of COVID 19 was reported in UCH.
The hospital said it would continue to render excellent care and services to all our patients.
The Hospital equally enjoined everyone to adhere to the required infection prevention and control measures prescribed by the WHO and the NCDC, such as physical distancing, regular hand washing, use of hand sanitizers & face masks.
