Former Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo is ready to put a £480,000-a-week deal at Chinese Super League side, Shanghai Shenhua at risk in order to prolong his Manchester United’s stay.
The former Watford goal poacher, whose loan deal at Old Trafford is due to expire in a matter of days, is desperate to extend his stay and has made it clear to the Red Devils that it’s his dream to do so.
Shanghai are willing to accept a bid of around £20m for the striker but do not want to extend his loan any further, which is at odds with United’s desire.
The Chinese club want to protect their asset and have prepared an astronomical £25m-a-year contract offer to the Nigerian.
At a time when club finances have been rocked by the coronavirus pandemic, Ighalo could protect his future by becoming one of the highest paid players in world football on £480,000-a-week.
However, the Daily Star claim Ighalo is willing to put that deal at risk by pleading with Shanghai to let him stay at Old Trafford.
Shanghai’s chairman has made it clear that these terms could be dropped if Ighalo doesn’t put pen-to-paper on an extension, which could rob the Nigerian of the largest deal in his career.
But Ighalo wants at a minimum to extend his loan stay at the Theater of Dreams as he believes the club can lift silverware in the FA Cup and Europa League this season.
The Nigerian’s already bagged four goals in nine appearances in a red shirt, convincing Solskjaer to keep him at the club.
The Premier League have agreed a restart date of June 17th, with United set to take on Spurs on the first weekend in north London.
Though Marcus Rashford is fit again, Solskjaer believes Ighalo can still provide valuable back-up and wants the Nigerian to continue his spell at the club.
