The novel coronavirus pandemic that originated from Wuham in China has been one global occurrence that will not be forgotten in a very long time to come.
What is more frustrating about COVID-19 is that despite the technological achievements and feats recorded by nations, especially the advanced ones, there is no centrally approved treatment for the disease. The World Health Organisation and others have just been practically groping in the dark.
For now and by some kind of divine intervention, the continent of Africa has beaten the predictions of bookmakers. The pandemic has had little or no effect. Deaths have been absolutely minimal.
As expected, in order to ensure the protection of its citizens, the Federal Government of Nigeria also took steps and the major one was to ‘lockdown’.
The shutting down of the economy has been having its own advert effects but the most vivid has been the supersonic spread of poverty. Governments at all levels could not deny this and still cannot. The lockdown is now being gradually relaxed.
Along the line, experts, including the Commissioner in Charge of the Health Ministry in Lagos State, Professor Akin Abayomi have repeatedly recommended that attention should be given to the immune system as the waterloo of Coronavirus disease.
Of course, Abayomi’s Lagos State is easily the leader in Nigeria when effective combating of the pandemic is being discussed. Other great scholars from the United States of America, India and others have also voiced out the same recommendation.
Since Nigeria’s economy cannot afford to be perpetually under lockdown (Nigerians, especially, Lagosians are already on the streets anyway), governments at all levels need to embark on serious campaign to enlighten residents on need to boost immunity levels. With this, all can be rest assured that the pandemic will be permanently eradicated from Nigeria and indeed Africa.
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
