Chief Adebayo Adelabu, the All Progressive Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in the 2019 general election in Oyo State has been speaking about why he wants the present governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde to succeed as an administrator.

Adelabu expressed his mind while featuring on a popular radio program anchored by Isaac Brown on Fresh 105.9 in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State on Saturday.

According to the technocrat turned politician, “it is my prayer, as a critical stakeholder in Oyo State that he should govern well and succeed. If the economy of the state picks up, my businesses will thrive, those of my family members, my friends and associates will also thrive.”

He added that the suffering of the masses will equally reduce if proper governance is put in place.

He implied that when he and his supporters have economic empowerment, they will be ready for electoral campaign and eventual take-over of government in 2023.

Adelabu also spoke about why he did not donate to the Oyo COVID-19 Trust Fund when he was called upon to do so.

He said he did not contribute because he felt that accountability and management of the COVID-19 Trust Fund was not meeting his expectation adding that the composition of the members of the Trust Fund is not ‘all-inclusive’.

“That is why I have been giving out palliatives to our people on my own. We have been sending monies ranging from five thousand to 20 thousand naira. We have spent almost 80 million naira in the past three months. We are not just making noise about it.”

The former CBN Deputy Governor equally submitted that “paying of salaries is not all that is to governance.”

He queried the present governor to reel out his achievements in the areas of security, education, agriculture, health and others.

On security specifically, he said the people of Ibadan still live with the fear of area boys, one million boys and others.

On agriculture, he accused Makinde of concentrating on Ibadan/Ibarapa senatorial district.

“Any agricultural policy or project that does not start from the Oke Ogun section of the state will not be seen as being a serious one. That is where most of our food items come from.

“In addition, if I were Seyi Makinde, I would approach investors to partner my government to build a rail line from Moniya, where the Federal Government’s rail system stops, to Kishi in the heart of Oke Ogun. Movement of agricultural products will be made easier like this.

“Generally, I wish he will challenge his commissioners to do more. Everything cannot be done by him. I cannot even easily recall any of their names. They are not just visible.”
