Former Oyo State House of Assembly member, Hon. Wasiu Lafioye Akinmoyede has been arrested by the police for allegedly assaulting a leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Lagelu local government area of Oyo state.
Hon. Akinmoyede, who represented Lagelu state consistency in the eighth Assembly reportedly used a chair to break the head of a former House of Representatives member and chieftain of APC in the local government, Hon. Remi Adebayo.
He was arrested on Thursday by one Police Superintendent, Mr. Bolaji from Zone 11, Osogbo, Osun State.
The incident, PMParrot reliably gathered took place on Wednesday, 13th August, 2020 during the APC Elders Meeting in the local government.
A source who does not want his name in print stated that, in the course of the meeting, Hon. Adebayo observed and mentioned the names of some elders, who were not in attendance and called the attention of others to the matter.
Akinmoyede, however, countered this submission and told the meeting that those names mentioned have left APC to another party.
“Reacting to Akinmoyede’s claim, Adebayo said one of the persons in question rented an apartment for campaign office for President Muhammadu Buhari in the build up to 2019 general elections”, the source disclosed.
Adebayo further stressed that if there is anyone that is believed to have left the party, that should be Lafioye Akinmoyede, adding that the former Chief Whip of the state House of Assembly had announced, just after he was released from detention over alleged murder of former member of House of Representatives, Temitope Olatoye Sugar, his withdrawal from active politics.
“This revelation drew the ire of Mr. Akinmoyede and he attacked Mr. Adebayo with a chair. He injured him on the head” our source said.
Some of the elders who attended the meeting included Hon. Peter Dairo, Hon. Debo Arowomole, Hon. Biodun, who is also a former chairman in the local government.
Meanwhile, a source close to the police has disclosed that the former lawmaker has been released on bail to one Mr. Femi Akintunde, a former councilor in Lagelu Local Government after he was given 11 days’ ultimatum to settle out of court or face prosecution.
