Former Nigeria’s Super Eagles’ captain, Mikel Obi has been allocated jersey No. 13, the same number he wore when he joined English Premier League side, Chelsea, by his new English Championship side, Stoke City.
According to a statement on the official website of the club, Stoke City have confirmed that Mikel, who made his professional debut for Lyn Oslo, will retained the No. 13 he wore when he made his debut for the team last Tuesday.
Mikel, who parted ways with his Turkish Super Lig side, Trabzonspor by mutual consent, will be wearing the No. 13 worn by Victor Moses during his loan spell at the bet365 Stadium in the 2014-2015 season.
It can be recalled that Mikel worn the number 10 jersey for the Golden Eaglets at the 2003 FIFA U17 World Cup, before he was allocated the number 9 at the 2005 FIFA U20 World Cup because his favorite shirt number was already taken by team captain Isaac Promise.
The 33-year-old midfielder played with the number 10 at Tianjin Teda while he donned the number 2 at his last English club, Middlesbrough.
