The new Executive Chairman of Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof Femi Akinwumi has assumed duty with a call on staff of the Board to cooperate with him in the task of improving the quality of education in public primary schools in the state.
Prof Akinwumi who made the call in Ado Ekiti during his inaugural meeting with staff of the Board, said one of the mandates given to him by Governor Kayode Fayemi was to transform public primary schools in the state into centres of excellence that can compete favourably with the best schools in the country.
“I am a product of public schools and I am sure many of you at this forum are products of public schools. If we as products of public schools can rise to the top echelon of the service, there is no reason why we cannot make our public schools centres of excellence that everyone of us would be proud of. By the Grace of God, under my leadership in SUBEB, there would be revival of education sector in the state”, Akinwumi said.
He added that the Board, under his watch, would adopt a holistic approach to improving the quality of public schools in the state, stressing that human capital and infrastructural development as well as vigorous monitoring of schools would be strategically pursued towards achieving the desired goals.
Prof Akinwumi solicited the support of all members of staff of the Board for the task ahead, emphasizing the importance of rededicating themselves to their duties and shunning indolence, lateness and other vices that might adversely affect their productivity.
Responding on behalf of the Board, the Commissioner, Human Resources Management, Dr Olufunke Fajobi and Commissioner Project Monitoring, Dr Kayode Adeoye welcomed the new Chairman and prayed for his success in the new assignment.
The Permanent Secretary of the Board, Mr Olusesan Fabamishe who had earlier taken the new Chairman round offices in the SUBEB premises, pledged the commitment of staff to the actualization of the vision and mission of the new chairman.
