The administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun in Ogun State through the Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa has said that it would continue to engage relevant stakeholders in the education sector particularly business educators, at ensuring that learners are able to defend their certificates to achieve professionalism.
Odemuyiwa said this while playing host to the executives of the Association of Business Educators of Nigeria (ABEN), Ogun Chapter, in Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta, noting that their engagement would add value to Technical and Vocational Education as well as contribute positively to the sub- sector.
He stated that the purpose of Technical Education in recent time is to explore the potentials in youths, make them skillful and self-reliance for socio- economic development of the country, adding that the present administration was determined to make the sub-sector more attractive for the overall benefit of the society.
“We want to make learners able to defend their certificates, what is the essence of a certificate you cannot defend? For us in Ogun State, the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun is ready to tap into the potentials of our youths and prevent them from roaming the streets’’, Odemuyiwa said.
The Special Adviser charged Business Educators to be proactive and give back to the society, saying Technical Education cannot survive without Business Education.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, urged the Association not to relent in their efforts and continue to advance in their call to duty in training learners to be relevant in Technical Education.
In their responses, the newly elected Chairman, ABEN, who is also a Director Quality Assurance, Federal College of Education Abeokuta, Dr.(Mrs) Temitayo Akinyele and Dean, the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, School of Communication and Information Technology, Dr. (Mrs) Charlotte Iro-idoro, pleaded with the State Government to resuscitate the Typing/Shorthand course and Vocational acquisition skill in the National curriculum of Business Studies, promising to partner with the present administration on Business Education in Technical Colleges across the State.
