Against all odds, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have revealed that a plan is in top gear to have the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) resume on November 15.
With the lifting on the ban of football activities in the country taking hold in mid-October, the League Management Company (LMC) of the NPFL put forward a proposal for the 2020-21 season to begin on November 15 and conclude in June next year.
The 2019-20 NPFL was scrapped in August, after the league had initially been suspended in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The NFF endorsed the new season date proposal at the end of its Executive Committee meeting held via video conference earlier this week.
“Following from the lifting of ban on football activities in the country, the Executive Committee endorsed a proposal by the League Management Company to fix the calendar for the 2020-2021 Nigeria Professional Football League to commence anytime from Sunday, 15th November 2020 and end the season by June 2021, with full adherence to the Federal Government’s Covid-19 protocols and other requirements as may be prescribed,” stated an NFF communique, as quoted by Punch.
“Full compliance with the Club Licensing regulations is mandatory for Clubs willing to take part in the NPFL.”
The football body also asked the Nigeria National League, Nigeria Women’s Football League and Nationwide League One “to synchronise their calendars with that of the NPFL with each of them commencing within three weeks of the elite League”.
