Clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League are yet to agree on a new date for the resumption of the 2020/21 season.
The PUNCH reported last week that the Nigeria Football Federation approved that the new NPFL season “can resume anytime from November 15.”
Two sources, who were present at a meeting between the League Management Company, the NFF and representatives of the club owners, told our correspondent that the clubs were yet to reach a decision on when the season would resume.
Both sources spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak on the matter.
“The meeting was inconclusive and it would be continued. We will release information on our resumption date once we are done,” one of the sources told The PUNCH.
“Some members of the LMC met with the NFF and they were arguing about when the league would commence. NFF gave them dates, but they said it would not be convenient for them, that they would need to put heads together,” the other source added.
The 2019/20 season of the NPFL was cancelled in August, with the Points Per Game format used to determine league positions after the league had initially been suspended in March after match-day 25, following the outbreak of COVID-19.
The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 however approved the resumption of contact sports October 15.
