The Commissioner of Police in charge of Oyo State Command, Mr. Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu has issued a strong warning to residents and people of the state to expose hoodlums among them who are in the possession of AK 47 riffles belonging to the Police.
The Commissioner gave the advice while parading suspected arsonists and looters that attacked the divisional police headquarters in Iseyin.
He said it poses a very big danger to the community, Oyo State in particular and Nigeria at large for the arm, AK 47 to be in wrong hands, particularly hoodlums.
Mr. Enwonwu appealed to residents and indigenes of the State to watch out for the bandits in their various communities.
According to the Commissioner, “I want to appeal to every resident and indigene to sensitize all stakeholders in residences and communities to watch out for those bandits, because you cannot stay side by side with them, they can injure, they can even kill, so, the earlier you fish them out the better.
“There is no way they can go scot free in the court of law when they are in the possession of AK 47 riffles, they call them prohibited fire arm. Anybody that is not a service personnel has no right to touch it, even the police or military officer, before they can touch it they must sign for it. The fire arm belongs to the federal government of Nigeria, it is dangerous to be in anybody’s hand, somebody that is not trained, somebody that is has not signed for it to handle it,” CP said.
He urged the people to contact hunter or vigilante group around them or send information to the police if they see any civilian with AK 47 riffle or riffles to apprehend.
The Commissioner disclosed that the hoodlums who capitalized on the protest to perpetrate crime burnt five divisional police headquarters and patrol vans. He added that they also went away with exhibits in the stations including the said police AK 47 riffles.
