Sunny Akosile recently emerged winner of the golf tournament held at the prestigious Ibadan Golf Club (IGC) to celebrate one of the trustees of the club, Parakoyi Tunde Afolabi who turned 70 years.
Akosile, playing off handicap 6 who is also the Course Officer of IGC returned with74 gross and 68net to beat Awodire that had 90 gross over 71 net and Bello with scores of 78 gross over 71net to first and second runners up respectively.
Mrs Oyinlola Omajuwa won in the ladies category with scores of 106 gross over 80net to edge Temitope Farombi who returned with 97 gross over 81net on count back and Evelyn Oyome that scored 87 gross over 81net to first and second runners up respectively.
The Captain of the Golf section of Ikoyi Club 1938, Uwem Udoh playing handicap 6 became winner of the special guest category after returning with 92 gross over 86net while Chief Peter O. Oyasor, playing off handicap 14 emerged winner in the veteran category with 85 gross over 71net to beat the President of Nigeria Golf Federation, (NGF) Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola to second place after returning with the scores of 87 gross over 74net.
The Captain of IGC, Ola Ibironke in his tribute to the celebrant that was also conferred with title of Parakoyi of Ibadanland, the highest chieftaincy title for any indigenous Ibadan businessman by the Olubadan of Ibadan Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji on the same day extolled the virtue of Tunde Afolabi.
“I am highly honoured to be celebrating with you on your 70th birthday as the captain of your homebased club because I know you’re a member of numerous golf clubs worldwide – and a well-deserved honour of the Parakoyi of Ibadanland to compliment your 70th birthday celebration”, IGC captain that is popularly known as Dudu Heritage said in his tribute.
The secretary of IGC, Tunde Akande in his tribute to the philanthropist said “Our inaugural Bar and Bench Golf Tournament held in 2016, generally described as one of the best organized golf tourneys in Nigeria where quality and grandeur were on display, the unseen hand behind the quality and luxury in display was Afolabi through his company as the major sponsor.
“Other contributions include donation of bullet proof security door at the reception, reconstruction of the club house into an architectural masterpiece that improved the aesthetic ambience of the club”, Akande, a legal practitioner noted.
Meanwhile more than 150 golfers that came from notable golf clubs in Nigeria took part in the one-day event.
Afterwards, Chief Ebenezer Obey was on the band stand to entertain guests during the dinner and prize presentations.
