In appreciation of his love for the development of grassroots football, the leadership of Youth Sports Federations of Nigeria (YSFON) has instituted a tournament tagged: Ajide Under-18 Football Competition in honour of the Chairman, Surulere Local Government in Lagos State, Hon. Tajudeen Ajide.
The general secretary of YSFON, Patrick Okpavuerhe announced the tournament in Lagos over the weekend during the investiture of Hon. Ajide as the Grand Patron of the body in the South/West and inauguration of Lagos State Chapter of YSFON held at Kelins Height Hotel, Surulere.
The Vice President, South/West of YSFON, Abayomi Alabi who presented the trophy to the council boss said the rationale behind the tournament, that was designed to be played among states in the southwest geo-political zone of the country is to appreciate Hon. Ajide for his constant support to YSFON and grassroots football.
“Hon. Ajide has done so much to support YSFON and grassroots football, and this is not far fetch because he’s also a product of YSFON, so nothing is too much to do in appreciation of this gentleman by YSFON leadership”, said the YSFON Chieftain popularly known as Oluaye.
Hon. Ajide in his response, however, pledged to continue supporting the body, saying Nigerian football can only be fortified and repositioned from the grassroots which the football governing body in the country seems to have neglected.
Ex-International Tajudeen Disu, Chairman Lagos State Chapter of YSFON and about nine others were also sworn-in to direct the affairs of the grassroots football body at the event.
