Hygiene: Fayemi’s Govt Partners Water Aid, Heinekens, Others

Dr Kayode Fayemi’s government in Ekiti State in collaborations with some Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) such as Water Aid, Heinekens and EDFHO has intensified efforts to improve awareness on the issue of hand washing and the maintenance of a clean environment in the State.

The representative of Governor Kayode Fayemi at the event, the Honourable Commissioner for Public Utilities in Ekiti State, Honourable Bamidele Faparusi whose purview it is to attend and oversee such issues, while speaking at the launching of the Clean Family Campaign and Handing Over of Handwashing Facilities donated to the State Government stated “that the campaign is mainly to motivate communities towards practicing specific hygiene behaviors; hand washing with soap, social distancing, use of clean toilets, and proper waste management and disposal techniques in our society and as well on our Campuses at a time the world is bedeviled with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr Faparusi advocated some measures to adopt to achieve an effective hand washing system and a clean environment in Ekiti State to include changing the physical and social environment, changing the narrative in people’s mind as well as motivating people to think and act differently through the use of emotional triggers.

He promised and specifically re-stated the readiness of the Ekiti State Government to empower and encourage people to practice good hygiene.

According to Faparusi, “the Ekiti State Ministry of Public Utilities is ready to handover 35 permanent hand washing facilities and 100 semi-permanent hand washing facilities as well as hygiene-keeping materials to some underserved communities in the State”.

Faparusi used the event to declare the intention of the Ekiti State Government to approach its Development Partners to request for a whopping sum of N10billion to help the government to be able to fulfill its promises to the people of the State in the area of ensuring an 100% health status and a clean environment for all citizens.

Present at the two events included the Mr. Kolawole Banwo, the Head, Policy, Advocacy and Communications for Water Aid Nigeria who represented the Country Director of Water Aid Nigeria, Mrs. Evelyn Mere at the Clean Family Campaign in Ekiti State.

Others included Mrs. Adeyemo Olubukola, the Head of the Corporate Affairs Advisory West for the Nigerian Breweries Plc in Ibadan and the representatives of the Heinekens Foundation; the Senior Special Adviser (SSA) for Public Health, Dr. Jimlas Ogunsakin, the representatives of the Environmental Development and Family Health Organization (EDFHO), Sir Olu Ogunrotimi; the Permanent Secretary in the Ekiti State Ministry of Public Utilities, Engineer Olumide Ajayi as well as the General Manager of Ekiti State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), Mr. Ayo Alegbeleye among others.
