The Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly Rt Hon Funminiyi Afuye has pledged the readiness of the Assembly to partner the State Command of the Nigeria Police towards reducing crime rates to the barest minimum in the State.
Afuye stated this in his office while playing host to the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Tunde Mobayo who paid him a courtesy visit.
He challenged security agencies in Ekiti to find a local solution to pockets of crimes and other vices that have become rampant in the State.
He specifically challenged security agencies to proffer solutions to herdsmen – farmers clashes in a bid to promote farming activities and eliminate hunger that may arise from such clashes.
While promising that the State Assembly will enact laws that would enhance peaceful coexistence among the populace, Afuye charged the police authorities to always partner the peace loving local people of Ekiti towards reducing crimes in the State.
He commended the police commissioner and his men generally for their efforts during the recent EndSARS protest and called on the police command to keep identifying flash points in order to flush criminals out of the state.
He sympathized with the police authorities over destruction of their properties during the EndSARS protest and urged them not to be discouraged by the incident.
Earlier, the State Commissioner of police, Mr Tunde Mobayo praised the state government for coming to the aid of the Command during the EndSARS protest and assured the people of the state of a crime free yuletide.
At the meeting were the principal officers and other members of the House.
