Ekiti NUJ Re-Elects Ojomoyela, Ronke Samo, Others

Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, have elected New Executive Members that would pilot the affairs of the union for the next three years.

The election held at the Secretariat of the Council located at Oke Ori-Omi in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State was monitored by the Vice President, Zone B, Mr. Cosmos Oni, the Ekiti State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Olaide Olubunmo and his counterparts from the Trade Union Congress ((TUC) Comrade Sola Adigun, as well as the Chief Press Secretary to the Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Yinka Oyebode.

Others were Prince Kayode Oni, a Veteran Journalist, the past Chairmen of the Ekiti State Council of the NUJ, Officiald of the State Ministry of Informations as well Journalists from the twelve (12) Chapels in the Ekiti State Council.

The new Executive Members are Comrades Rotimi Ojomoyela as Chairman from the Correspondent Chapel, Comrade Ronke Samo as the Vice Chairman from the National Orientation Agency (NOA) Chapel, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, as Soon from the Radio Nigeria (FRCN) Chapel and Comrade Demola Atobaba as the Assistant Secretary from the Federated Chapel.

Others are Comrade Olubunmi Ibiteye as the Auditor from the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State (BSES) Chapel; Comrade Yemi Dalemo from the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Chapel and Comrade Remi Adegoke as the Financial Secretary from the Local Government Information Chapel.

Shortly before the election won by all the Aspirants unopposed, the Vice President Zone B of the NUJ, dissolved the Ojomoyela led Executive Committee and read out the names while the delegates seated responded with a loud voice vote thereby affirming there proper election.

In his Goodwill message at the occasion, the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, reiterated the readiness of his administration to continue to partner with Journalists in the State.

Governor Kayode Fayemi, while congratulating the new Executive Members, urged them to fashion out ways of developing the Union and uplifting it.

Lamenting over what he called absence of Camera and some members at the event, the Governor urged members to always endeavor to pay their checkup dues up to date, saying doing so would contribute to the development of the Union.

Similarly, in his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated Chairman, Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela thanked members of the Union over the success of the election.

He promised to continue to introduce and initiate more programmes that will have a direct impact in the life of the Union.

Ojomoyela used the occasion to reel out some of the achievements he recorded during his first term in office.

He, however, used the opportunity to solicit for more support from members, saying the move would further enable him to perform better in his second term in office.
