The Demola Babalola-led exco of the Nigerian Union of Journalists in Oyo State on Sunday made another history as a newly renovated part of Soladoye Adewole Centre was opened for use.

The wing of the building which renovation started few weeks ago, was rented out to a frontline journalist, Femi Atoyebi as a recreation centre.

The new entertainment corner named Eagle F&D Lounge will serve as hub of recreation activities including sports, for restless journalists to recreate and free themselves of endless stress in their day-to-day reportorial works.

The NUJ State Chairman, Ademola Babalola promised that the newly commissioned facility would be ‘a home away from home for journalists and other members of the public.’

Babalola said he was always willing to support other journalists ready to seek alternative means of eking out living for their future.

He said he has been admonishing colleagues to think out of the box, especially if the experience of year 2020 Covid-19 was anything to go by as many journalists were today out of their jobs because of the economic effect of the pandemic.

Responding, Atoyebi thanked the new NUJ leadership for the initiative, just as he applauded them that the place would be made to live up to its billing of providing haven for journalists.

Unveiling the Eagle F&D Lounge, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor of Oyo State, Mr. Taiwo Adisa commended Demola Babalola-led leadership for changing the face of the NUJ Secretariat.

Adisa while commending Atoyebi for thinking out of the box to diversify interests, said gone were the days when journalism started and ended in the newsroom.

He described the development as a bold initiative.

He charged other journalists to emulate the gesture and work for themselves so as to have a better alternative when the unthinkable happens.
