The management of First Technical University, Ibadan has mourned the death of its Pro-Chancellor, Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe, who died on Sunday at the age of 71.
According to a press release signed by the institution Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ayobami Salami, on Monday, Ibidapo-Obe was described as a “globally renowned and celebrated university administrator.”
Prof Salami also eulogised late Prof Ibidapo-Obe’s “indelible contributions to the acclaimed progress that Tech-U has recorded within the three and a half years of its existence.”
The statement reads in part: “With a very heavy heart but in submission to the will of the Almighty God, I announce the passing onto the glory of Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of the First Technical University, Ibadan.
“The erudite, resourceful and highly impactful scholar, administrator and statesman breathed his last on Sunday, 3rd January 2021.
“Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe was a globally renowned and celebrated university administrator. His iconic touch to the rapid progress and development of our university is real and apparent.
“This explains the deep pain and sadness that enveloped the University when the news of his death broke out.
“Yet, we are consoled that he led such a dutiful, productive and impactful life. As we, therefore, commiserate with his family and His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde, FNSE, Visitor to the University and the Chancellor, Chief Tunde Afolabi MFR, we wish Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe a peaceful everlasting rest and we pray that God accords his soul eternal rest.”
