Calm has returned to Cocoa House located in Dugbe, Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State after an old elevator being worked on crashed to the basement pit killing one engineer and injuring three others.

When PMParrot visited the ground floor of the imposing building after the elevator accident, workers and others were seen in groups talking about the day’s mishap.

One of the workers who spoke under anonymity told PMParrot that “the whole thing was like a ‘James Bond film’. We first thought it was a bomb scare!

“This elevator crash was like a dream to us. I don’t think this has ever happened before in Nigeria. The young engineer that died was so unfortunate. And they were trying to remove the old elevator and install a new one. May his soul rest in peace.”

Meanwhile, in a statement from the office of Victor Ayetoro, O’dua Investment Company’s spokesman confirmed that the elevator accident actually happened.

He said “at around 11am this morning, the lift installation team from our contractor handling the installation of the new lift to improve efficiency of work at Odu’a Investment Company Limited while working on the lift suffered a mechanical failure.

“The said failure resulted in the lift car dropping and crashing into the basement pit.

“Unfortunately, one of the technicians in the team did not survive the incident.

“Three other technicians suffered minor injuries and have been taken to the hospital for check-up/treatment.

“The head office of the company has been informed and their representatives have arrived to take charge of the situation while the Police have also been informed”.
