Popular Ekiti Petroleum Dealer, Alhaji Akinbami Abducted

Alhaji Suleiman Akanji Akinbami, a popular petrol dealer in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State has been kidnapped just few hours after the Ekiti State Government ordered fresh curfew on account of the spread of the second wave of the COVID 19 pandemic.

Alhaji Suleiman Akanji Akinbami was said to have been kidnapped on Sunday evening at one of his filling stations located beside the Immigration Office in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State Capital.

According to PMParrot’s source, one Mr. Audu Ismaila, who is a Manager at one of the victim’s filling stations located on Ikere Ekiti road, when we contacted him on the phone, he said “Alhaji Suleiman Akanji Akinbami who was reported to have been kidnapped at the premises of his filling station located on the Federal Polytechnic road in Ado Ekiti had been indoor since morning till evening time before he left his filling station on Ikere Ekiti road to go to one on the Polytechnic road where he was eventually kidnapped”.

Narrating to PMParrot further, Audu Ismaila said: “Alhaji Suleiman Akanji Akinbami was kidnapped around 8pm this evening. Immediately he came out since morning from his house at Ikere Ekiti road, he went to the Polytechnic road, it was there at the Polytechnic road that I was called that he has been kidnapped.

“When he left us and got to Polytechnic road, I was told he said he wanted to pray, immediately he finished praying, he went to the generator-house because one mechanic was around to work on the generator. So, Alhaji Akinbami went there to check on him. He was there with one of our staffs when the kidnappers came and held him and he was taken away in the presence of one of our staffs.

“The kidnappers, I was told were three in number. I then took my phone and called a brother who has the contacts of the Commissioner of Police and other DSS Officers to tell him of the need to alert security agents.

“Earlier , the wife of Alhaji Suleiman Akanji Akinbami had reported the case at the Police Station on the Polytechnic road. We also later went to Ologede Police Station to make this same report. But on getting there, they were first reluctant to answer until we shouted further before they came to us at the gate and we explained to those on duty”.

Also, in the reaction of the Ekiti State Police Command, sent to PMParrot by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ekiti State, DSP Sunday Abutu, he has officially confirmed the abduction of Alhaji Suleiman Akanji Akinbami.

According to DSP Sunday Abutu, he said: “today being 10/01/2021 at about 2105hrs, one Mrs. Mariam Akinbami came to Odo-Ado Divisional Police Headquarters and reported that her husband, Alhaji Suleiman Akinbami was kidnapped at the premises of his Petrol Station along Ijan/Ado Road at about 2030hrs on the same date”.

According to her, she said “four unknown men quietly approached the husband, ordered him into his Toyota Jeep and whisked him away to an unknown destination.

“Upon receipt of the information, the DPO led his team to the scene but the abductors had already gone”.

Meanwhile, “the Command has deployed a Special Team of Policemen to be assisted by the Amotekun Corps, Local Hunters and the Vigilantes to comb the bush for possible tracking of the suspects and the release of the victim”.

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr Tunde Mobayo, while calling for calm, assured the good people of Ekiti State that the Police will do its best to ensure the rescue of the victim and the tracking of the abductors.

The Commissioner also advised everyone to be wary of strange and suspicious faces around their domains and implore everyone with useful information concerning the incident to please contact the nearest Police Station or call 08062335577, he concluded.
