Our man in Ekiti State, EMMANUEL ADENIRAN recently had an exclusive interview with the Commissioner Of Police in Ekiti State, Mr Tunde Mobayo. During the session, the experienced police officer spoke about the continuous effort of his Command to continue to fight crime while also calling for more information and vigilance on the part of the Ekiti people. Excerpts:

When and how did you join the Nigerian Police Force?

I was enlisted into the Nigerian Police Force as a Cadet ASP in 1988.

What actually motivated you to join the Nigerian Police Force?

I have always had the passion to join the force right from my school days. My passion for the force was driven firstly by the fact that I have always considered people who serve their Countries in uniform as noble people and real nationalists.

Secondly, I actually grew up in the barracks and have always loved to see men in uniform. Lastly, the core mandate of the Nigerian Police Force which is the protection of lives and properties actually motivated me. I was and I am proud to be part of those who protect the lives and properties of the good people of Nigeria.

When exactly were you officially posted to Ekiti State?

I came in to take the mantle of leadership of Ekiti State Police Command on 27th July, 2020.

Since you were posted to the Ekiti State Command, what has been your experience in the State fighting crime and ensuring there is absolute peace?

Well, I wouldn’t say it has not been easy and I wouldn’t say it has been easy. Although, Ekiti State is relatively peaceful but sometimes, we experience some difficult times due to the activities of some criminal elements. Some, we handle with discretion and professionalism while some, we handle by deploying our operatives. In all, all the mountains (criminal activities) have so far been surmounted. Glory to God!

This is a new year, what drastic efforts are you going to put in place to stem the tide of kidnapping and evil practices in the State?

Our operational modus operandi for the year is already in place. It will be unprofessional of me to reveal such sensitive information for now. But for the year 2021, the Police is fully on ground as usual with new tactics that will ensure more security for the good people of Ekiti State.

I will like you to highlight the various success the Ekiti State Command has been able to record in the area of fighting crime since you resumed duties in the state…

Well, a lot of breakthroughs were made in 2020 and more will be achieved in this year 2021. I won’t be able to mention them one after the other due to time and space but Ekiti people can testify and the hand writing is on the wall all over.

The Command has arrested a lot of Armed Robbers, Kidnappers, Burglars, Rapists, Fraudsters and other criminal elements. 100% of those cases were investigated and over 95% charged to Court. Others are still under investigation. The records are there for anyone who might be interested to see.

How will your Command, Ekiti Police put under control cases of incessant abductions on the State?

The Command has been trying its best with the assistance of other Sister agencies as well as the Amotekun Corps, the Vigilantes and the Local Hunters. We are not also forgetting the good spirited members of the public and we shall continue to do our best until the issue of abduction and other criminal activities are brought to zero level across the State.

Your closing remarks Sir…

I want to sincerely appreciate the Ekiti people for their supports so far. Without mincing words, I would like to say that the Police can never function effectively without useful and timely information from the members of the public. In view of this, I humbly implore everyone to be security conscious and promptly report any untoward incident or happening observed in their locality to the nearest police station or call this phone number 0806 233 5577 for prompt action and safety of our society.
