Nigeria’s table tennis star, Quadri Aruna has revealed that he hopes to pick one of the four slot for the Tokyo Olympic Games at the World Singles Qualification Tournament starting Sunday March 14.

Quadri, who bowed out of the men’s singles at the 2021 World Table Tennis Contender in Doha after losing 3-0 (11-4, 13-11, 11-7) to world No.5 Japan’s Harimoto Tamakazu, said his priority now is the slot for the Olympics.

“I am happy that after resting for some days following the injury I sustained while playing for my club in the German Bundesliga, I was able to perform well at the WTT Tournaments.

“I did not train up to 10 days before heading to the competition and that means I was no even at my full best. I am optimistic that I can be part of the four players that will make it to Tokyo from the qualifiers,” Quadri said.

The WSQT will begin on Sunday March 14 at the Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena in Doha, Qatar and 73 men and 60 women will be aiming to pick nine Olympic tickets available.
