African football ambassador, Chief Segun Odegbami has been talking about how former Super Eagles goalkeeper, former captain, and former national team goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorounmu was surprised with a chieftaincy title.
Odegbami, in a whatsapp message he circulated on Saturday afternoon explained:
“At 12 noon today, former Super Eagles goalkeeper, former captain, and former national team goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorounmu, became a traditional chief.
“During the official courtesy visit to the Oba of Wasimi, the Oniwasimi of Wasimi, Oba Emmanuel Babatunde Oshuntogun, the national football hero was presented with a surprise special 1st of May-gift.
Ike Sorounmu, was conferred with the traditional Chieftaincy title of Olunla of Wasimi.
“He was accompanied to the Palace by the Chairman of the SOCA PTA, Chief Dele Avri, the Head of Sports, Prof. Lee Evans, the Administrator of the school, Mr. Denis Owumi, the Bursar, Mr. Michael Olaniran, amongst others”.
In a telephone chat with PMParrot, Ike Shorounmu confirmed that he was actually not told that he was going to be honoured with a chieftaincy title.
“I went to see Chief Odegbami and I was asked later to follow him (Odegbami) to the Palace of the Oba of Wasimi only to be told that I would be given a title. I appreciate and thank all those who planned this ‘coup’ against me,” said the former Super Eagle, laughing.
