A lecturer from the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Mr. Taoreed Adejare Adefolakan has strongly admonished the federal government to focus on developing a viable blueprint to save the education sector in Nigeria from total collapse.
Mr. Adefolakan who teaches at the Mass Communication Department of the institution gave this admonition during a visit to ParrotXtra Media Network’s corporate headquarter in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo recently.
He revealed that the current state of the Nigeria education sector is worrisome while charging the federal government to put necessary machinery in place to check the ‘standards that are falling on daily basis’.
According to him, “Nigeria is suffering from systemic problem, a policy summersault in the area of education”.
He, however, revealed that the comatose state of the educational sector can be attributed to the lethargic attitude of the society and parents who supported their children to cut corners in purchasing fraudulent certificates.
“Some parents even go as far as writing examinations for their children. And on the side of the government, corruption has eaten deeply into the system and the meagre cash allocated to the sector is grossly mismanaged year in, year out.
“We all have roles to play and I mean it. We, lecturers or teachers if you like, the parents and government must come together to lift the standard of education in the country. If not, the future of the country will remain bleak.”
