In it its quest to check production and sales of substandard materials in Ekiti State, the Federal Government has built and opened a modern office equipped with laboratories for the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON). The new office will be used to examine and determine fake products.
It is no more news that fake products are available at various stores and markets in Ekiti State thus subjecting residents to various consequential dangers associated with such illegal act.
However, end has come to such practice in the state with the new laboratory set up by the Federal Government for SON.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo restated the commitment of the Federal Government towards ensuring standardization of products and services in the country.
Otunba Adebayo urged staff of SON to make judicious use of the facilities and step up their campaign against substandard goods and services.
In a remark, the Director General of SON, Mallam Farouk Salim said with the new facilities, the people of Ekiti State would have access to quality goods and services noting that producers of substandard goods would be identified and dealt with according to the law.
Mallam Salim said part of the commitments to end substandard goods was putting up befitting modern laboratories across the nation so as to give room for proper examination of products.
The Director General of SON noted that the inauguration of the office complex in Ekiti State would boost its investment drive.
In his own remark, the governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi explained that the full presence of the Organization would complement the Economic Plan of the state government, urging companies and business owners to establish in Ekiti.
Governor Fayemi also reiterated his administration’s resolve to partner SON in achieving standardization of products and services in the state.
In their goodwill messages, the the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe, represented by Chief Olusola Olanrewaju and the Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Oba Adeola Ajakaye appreciated Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo for his efforts towards putting up the edifice in Ekiti state.
