The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola has urged Nigerians to take the COVID-19 vaccines immunization very serious in order to curtail the spread of the pandemic in the country while urging Nigerians not to be skeptical about the efficacy of the vaccination.
The Minister further disclosed that the COVID-19 pandemic contributed immensely to the rising insecurity and economic woes affecting the country.
The former Osun State Governor stated this during an annual lecture titled: COVID-19 ‘The Economy and Security’, to mark the third-year lecture of the faculty of Arts in Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti during the week.
The Interior Minister further urged for the transformation of the Nigerian markets, building patterns and the transportation system in order to halt the spread of the pandemic while condemning the poor Nigerian transportation system that can further lead to an unprecedented outbreak of communicable diseases that might be difficult to be controlled if not properly checked.
Speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Edward Olanipekun commended the organizers of the program stating that such program will help to re-ignite the trust in the Nigerian educational system.
He said he was delighted at the array of intellectual minds and dignitaries invited to grace the auspicious occasion, noting that their presence has helped to reinforce the place of the academia as a genuine quest to deepen intellectual engagement with a view to beaming searchlight on some important issues that bother the academic community and the nation at large.
On his part, Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Funminiyi Afuye commended the University for setting agenda for the government and re-awakening the consciousness of the people about developmental issues and its effort towards minimizing the spread of the pandemic.
